Russia, late 19th century. The Empire is in great peril, and only one man can save it: the bold and resourceful young messenger Mikhail Strogoff. In a desperate race against time, he must face great dangers if he is to deliver his warning, as foreign armies mass on the border and a traitor lurks ready to strike. But is it already too late?
The first full English translation in over a hundred years of legendary author Jules Verne's thrilling adventure novel, which in his native France is judged to be his greatest work.

A great classic novel to discover, both for adult readers and young readers 12 and up.

About the translator:
Stephanie Smee is an award-winning translator into English of all things literary and French.
Having worked as a lawyer in Sydney and London, Stephanie happily traded in a legal career for a return to her linguistic calling. After several years as a French legal translator, she made her literary translation début in 2010 with a new English translation of 19th century French children’s author, the Countess de Ségur’s Fleurville Trilogy (Simon & Schuster), and followed it up with several other translations of the Countess’ works. Since then she has translated several contemporary French novels and a memoir, winning international awards for two of them.
Stephanie lives in Sydney. Her website is at https://www.stephaniesmee.com/

About the illustrator:
David Allan is an illustrator and designer, known for illustrating several beautiful picture books published by Christmas Press: Sophie Masson’s Two Trickster Tales from Russia, Ursula Dubosarsky’s Two Tales of Twins from Ancient Greece and Rome, and Duncan Ball’s Two Tengu Tales from Japan. Jules Verne’s Mikhail Strogoff is the first novel he has illustrated. David lives in the New England region of NSW. His website is at www.davidallanart.com

About Jules Verne:
The great 19th century French writer Jules Verne(1828–1905) was a literary superstar in his day and even today is an extremely popular author all over the world, with many titles still in print. His books have been translated into hundreds of languages and he is still in fact the second most translated author in the world—after Agatha Christie and before William Shakespeare. There have also been many films and TV series based on his work. His novels have not only inspired generations of readers, writers and film-makers, but also scientists, technologists, explorers and inventors, all over the world.
In France, his great adventure novel, known there as Michel Strogoff, is the most popular of any Verne titles, and is considered to be his very best.
